Using less that 5W, this little box is powered by a 1.2Ghz Marvell Kirkwood CPU, has 512MB Ram, 512MB Flash, and - besides WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, eSata, Micro SD and several other I/Os - has also, not one, but... 2 Gigabit ethernet ports! Imagine the possibilites. :)

Has they say, you'll be able to use this GuruPlug everywhere, from home automatio to surveilance, industrial automation, gris computing... you name it.

  1. Yeah, that's really cool device and I'm gonna buy it in a short time. I think it would be great if it had 3g support.

  2. Well, I think 3G will be easy to add via a 3G USB dongle. :)

  4. seems that 3g dongle will be not much smaller than guru plug itself =)

  5. You should definitely avoid buying this until they completely rework the thermal design. It heats like hell, to the point you can't touch the metal parts. Many people are reporting failures after less than 3 months. I already had to remove the power supply to fit heatsinks in it (though they're still not enough). For those interested in seeing it inside without voiding their warranty, check the link above.

  6. Sorry to hear about that. Maybe tweaking with the power managment settings might help?

  7. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be tuned. I tried to disable wifi, bluetooth, sata, SD etc... hoping it would slightly lower power consumption but it does not have any significant effect, my plug is still burning hot in idle state. The CPU frequency cannot be changed by software, it requires some pins to be correctly set at power on. I really think there's something wrong with the CPU itself, it's not normal to have a chip heat like this when in idle. I think my core2duo consumes less in idle :-/

  8. Buy the Guru Plug standard. It doesn't have the heating problems as the Guru Plug Pro... you lose litte: only on ethernet, no eSATA connection and no SD slot reader. After all, you can live without those in most of the ocasions.
