Colorful Power Savings in AMOLED Androids
Here's an ingenious way to save power in your AMOLED Android device.
While in LCDs the power needed to show any image is constant (whether it's all green, or blue, or red), in Amoled screens that is an entirely different matter. Red subpixels are a lot more efficient than green ones, and even more so than the blue subpixels.
That's why Jeff Sharkley, a Google emplyee decided to create colorfilter App for his Nexus One and see how it fared.
By using just the red pixels, in a best case scenario you can actually double the battery life!
Quite impressive, isn't it?
On the other hand, I imagine if you used it a lot, you would probably affect the long term color balance of the screen, by using a single channel more than the others, resulting in an uneven "usage pattern"...
