Autodesk, the creators of the world famous AutoCad, now offer us this easier to use 3D modelling app: Autodesk 123D. This free program, that most will compare to Google' own SketchUp - and rightfully so - allows you to do more complex "mechanical" things, like complex assemblies and movement constraints.
There are lots of YouTube tutorial videos that can help you find out what this Autodesk 123D is capable of. From what I've seen... it sure looks like an amazing program, and being free... there's nothing stopping your from trying it out and find out for yourself.
