Android M stands for Marshmallow

After all the theories and predictions, now it's official: the Android that will follow Lollipop is... Android Marshmallow.

Though there's still no official launch date for it, the fact that the last Android M preview version has just been launched means that it's bound to happen sooner rather than later. Most likely, it will launch in time for the new Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, which are expected to be unveiled in September and should come with Android M.

This new Android Marshmallow will be more efficient than ever, and should also clean up some aspects of the app permission management - allowing us to selectively turn off permissions we don't want to give, instead of being a all or nothing approach like it happens now. For instance, if a calculator app requests permission to access your contacts, you'll be able to decline and keep using it.

Hopefully, Marshmallow won't arrive riddled with bugs that will linger for months till being fixed (like Lollipops' memory leaks, which slowed devices to a crawl after a few days of use.)
