After years of yearly Nexus device updates, it seems Google's about to put an end to it all, and move to a new brand that's isn't that "new": Pixel.
Last year's Nexus 5X and 6P may end up being the last Nexus device ever; as it seems Google's about to follow a different path and start making it's devices more unique than the standard "bare" Android devices.
Google had already hinted at wanting to have more control over their own devices design and experience; and nearly every smartphone manufacturer already adds its own interface on top of their Android devices (like Samsung's, TouchWiz). So, we may have reached a point where Google's fed up with others adding their own "look" to Android, and will start working on its own as well.
We'll know in about a month, as Google's event is scheduled for October 4th.
