Italian court says mobile phone caused a brain tumor
An Italian court has rekindled the controversy and fear surrounding mobile phones and smartphones, considering it has been proven that the intensive ruse of these devices can cause brain tumors.
The fear of health risks caused by mobile phones has been with us for a long time, and over the years studies popped up for all: some assuring there is no risk; others saying there may be; while other humbly state that we need longer term studies and a much larger pool of samples to reach a conclusion.
But an Italian court seemingly needs no more studies, and considered that the intensive use of a mobile phone caused a brain tumor in Roberto Romeo, 57, who for the past 15 years has used a cell phone for three to four hours each work day due to his professional obligations. Though the tumor was benign, doctors still had to remove is acoustic nerve, leaving him with permanent hearing loss with the judge awarding him 500 euros/month as compensation.
This decision can still be appealed, but one way or another, it's sure to reignite the whole discussion about the safety of using mobile phone next to your head for hours on end.
